Whether you are a recent graduate, taking a career break, or looking to gain practical experience in your field of study, an international internship in Shanghai can be an important stepping stone in your career path. ELI works with a wide variety of organizations in Shanghai to create one of a kind, tailored internships in fields ranging from Law to Engineering and Health Sciences. Interns gain valuable work experience while living in one of the most dynamic and quickly growing metropolises on the face of the planet. Working with Chinese companies, interns develop important cross-cultural competencies and truly join the international marketplace. If you do not see your area of interest listed below, please inquire. Shanghai offers almost limitless opportunities!
Shanghai's skyline is a fantasy of modern skyscrapers towering over historic architecture including Neo Classical masterpieces on the Bund and traditional Chinese Architecture such as Yyuan Garden, built in the 16th century. Shanghai's commercial and residential buildings showcase cutting edge interior design concepts and attract attention from around the world. Interns in the fields of architecture and interior design work directly with professionals as project assistants and may be given more responsibilities with specific projects.
What is Included?
What's Not Included?
All internships in Shanghai require at least a one month commitment. To be considered for a stipend, interns must commit to at least three months.
Please note that not all internship placements offer stipends.
Accommodation Cost and Details: Accommodation is not included in the program fee, but ELI will arrange accommodation for the participant in advance. Participants can choose the housing situation they prefer. Rent payments are due upon arrival in Shanghai. The apartment and dorm options require a damage deposit equal to one month's rent. The deposit will be returned at the end of the program if there is no damage beyond normal wear and tear.
Chinese Language Classes: While knowledge of Chinese is not required, knowing Mandarin will only enhance the internship experience. ELI can arrange language classes in conjunction with the internship placement. Participants can choose from a wide variety of courses such as a 36 hour week-long crash course for complete beginners, small group classes, or private instruction with a tutor. Prices vary depending on the type of instruction.
Travel Insurance: Travel insurance is not included in the program fee. We prefer to let participants decide what kind of coverage they need.
