Project Review

It is a lovely natural site of about 10 hectares. It is there to protect the last wildlife remains representative of what at one time used to occupy the entire costal strip of Rio de la Plata. There are a great variety of plants and wild animals, many of which can be appreciated in their natural environment by the visitors that travel through the interpretative path. The reserve exists to conserve this rich native flora and fauna, such as the Federal, one of the most beautiful birds in the country, that lives and breeds in the reserve The reserve in the property of the Municipality of San Isidro. The care and control of the land is taken charge of by the Ribera Norte Association that was established with this goal in mind. The Association carries out a very important task in order to reach the objectives and insure the appropriate use and conservation of the reserve. One of the priorities of Ribera Norte is the preservation of local wildlife. The land contains a vast number of species of native plants and animals adapted to living and breeding in this kind of landscape. Being a lowland borderes by the coast of Rio de la Plata, during the floods and sudestadas, the water can cover parts of it- in fact, during the greatest rises it becomes completely submerged. This dynamic is vital for the development of many costal plants, which provide shelter and food to all types of animals: insects, reptiles, birds, mammals, natural to this part of the world. Because there are no similar land sites left on the whole riberena coast, without the existence of Ribera Norts many of these species would surely not be alive in San Isidro. The reserve also has an important educational function, welcoming a great number of scholastic contingents throughout the year. Its during these visits that many young people experience their first contact with nature.
