For 4-weeks, July 9th – August 5th, 2011 participants study Japanese language and culture and experience Japan in the Kansai region (Kobe).Language classes are taught in the morning, and Japanese Writing and culture classes on some afternoons, leaving most afternoons and evenings, as well as weekends free to explore the Kansai area (Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and Kobe).Instructors are experienced teachers of Japanese, from local schools and colleges. Group excursions will include guided tours to Kyoto and Nara (See schedule).

  • Round trip airfare to Japan

Housing is paid directly by each student. You book housing online using web links provided with confirmation documents.

Skills/ Qualifications

No specific skills or qualification are required, except the participant needs to be friendly, open, flexible and should have good communication skills.

Arrangements for Room/Food

Food and Accommodation: Housing is available in student type Guest Houses. CSA will provide housing website links to book online with your confirmations. Any new housing facilities will be posted as soon as possible. Let us know if you have any problems finding suitable housing. Local hotels may also be of interest – see web link below. Homestay with Japanese families is no longer available. Costs vary from $200 – $400 USD per week.

Any Missing Important Information

Medical Insurance: CSA requires all applicants to have or obtain adequate medical and accidental insurance before starting the program. We list a couple of insurance companies for you to contact in the “travel information” section of this website. Please be sure to send CSA a copy of your insurance card, and if you already have insurance then double check with your current insurance company to find out if you will be covered while overseas and how claims are processed.Overall, it is for your own protection to have such insurance.
