Project Review

Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design – BA (Hons) Ceramic Design redefines ceramics, invents new uses and challenges traditions. Students learn to question how ceramic materials are used and explored, within a historical and theoretical context, and by way of a range of ceramic practices including design for the vessel; tableware; hollowware and gift ware; interior, architectural and environmental ceramics. Students are taught by professional ceramic designers in the hand building, throwing and plaster forming studios. Students also have access to a glaze room, kiln room and slip casting room. Additional admission requirement: Portfolio.Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design – Jewelery Design at CSM is for those who aim to define the direction of contemporary jewelry, and become highly skilled designer-makers. It is about creating jewelry of quality, in terms of both its concept and realization, and it has a reputation for ground-breaking ideas and the innovative use of materials. Students enhance their personal creativity through developing creative problem solving skills, fluency of visual language, craft skills, and appreciation of jewelry’s historic, social, and cultural context. Additional admission requirement: Portfolio.Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design – This internationally renowned course is the longest standing of its kind in the UK. Companies such as Kodak, LG Electronics and Panasonic support projects and act in an advisory capacity as clients for students. It is a practice-based design course for students who can think creatively, and who want to explore issues through creative risk-taking. Students are provided the opportunity to explore a range of design outcomes including packaging, furniture and consumer product design. Debate and reflective practice are encouraged in order to facilitate personal and professional development. Additional admission requirement: Portfolio.Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design – The BA (Hons) Fashion course has earned an international reputation for producing ground-breaking and highly creative designers and fashion communicators who have gone on to make outstanding and directional contributions within a variety of fashion professions in the U.K. and abroad. Graduates include such influential names as John Galliano, Hussein Chalayan, Matthew Williamson, Clements Ribeiro and the journalists Iain R. Webb, Jeremy Langmede and Andrew Tucker. The philosophy is to provide a learning environment in which innovation, invention and originality can be developed with a range of different, but closely related, fashion pathways. Students choose one of the following pathways: womenswear, menswear, fashion print, fashion knit, fashion design with marketing, fashion history and theory, or fashion communication with promotion. Graduates possess a truly in-depth knowledge of their chosen field, as well as a breadth of knowledge and critical understanding of the social, economic and cultural factors that impact on the professional fashion world. Additional admission requirement: Portfolio.Chelsea College of Art and Design – This leading program promotes innovative, experimental and creative approaches to textile design. An interdisciplinary approach allows students to specialize in areas of printed, woven, knitted, stitched and digital textiles. This represents an exceptional range of potential overlapping development, including new technologies, encouraging diversity and flexibility of approach. There is also an opportunity for students to have induction into the wood, metal and ceramics workshops in the second year of the course. This enables a wider range of materials to be included in individual practice. Sustainability is a distinctive feature of the course, with environmental issues and concerns embedded in all stages of the curriculum, underpinned by a theory program including staff research and visiting practitioners. Additional admission requirement: Portfolio
