Project Review

AIFS students can enroll in any course offered by the University of Salzburg where enrollment is not limited. AIFS students must have at least 2 years of college-level German to take regular University courses. Due to the University of Salzburg academic calendar, students taking these courses must stay and pay for an additional month in SalzburgStudents at the University have e-mail access at no charge. Various University departments offer limited student computer facilities. Local providers charge approximately 4 euros an hour. Limited use of computer facilities is available at the AIFS office.
Course load Classes meet for 12 weeks each semester (plus 2 weeks of language orientation). Courses are worth 3 credits and total 45 contact hours per semester. One course hour equals 45 minutes. Classes are held Monday to Friday. A placement exam after arrival determines appropriate levels. The intensive German language orientation course meets for a total of 30 hours of instruction. Each course is divided into grammar, conversation, vocabulary and culture with an exam at the end. These courses consist of small groups of exclusively AIFS students. Instructors are approved by the University of Salzburg. Orientation courses are worth 2 credits and appear on a University of Salzburg transcript.ourses at the 100 level are introductory courses. Two hundred and 300 level courses are semi-specialized courses for students with ability and background in the subject. Four hundred level courses are designed for students majoring in the discipline. The number in parentheses indicates both recommended credits and number of class hours per week. Courses with German titles are taught in German. Ten students are required to confirm a course Students with no German background may take all courses in English. Three subject areas are taught by the University exclusively for AIFS students: international relations, business and economics, and arts and humanities.

What program fee Includes

Students enrolling for a full year (two semesters) at the same campus receive an automatic fee reduction of $1,500 toward their second semester fee. If they so wish, they can use their original return flight at the end of the second semester and pay the "without airfare" second semester fee less $1,500. Alternatively, they can return home between semesters, book an additional round trip ticket through AIFS for the second semester and apply the $1,500 reduction to the "with airfare" second semester fee. Students paying this reduced, full-year fee may not take part in the spring semester orientation.Students who wish to enroll for a full year at two different campuses will receive a minimum reduction of $1,000 on the second semester fee. Contact AIFS at 800.727.2437 to find out the exact fee reduction available for your chosen second campus. Full-year students are responsible for their own housing and meals during the break between fall and spring semesters.University sports class—tuition to one class of your choice Comprehensive insurance and assistance package For your convenience, AIFS will arrange your round-trip airfare (including all fuel surcharges, taxes and fees), meet you at the arrival airport(s) and provide transportation to and from the program site on scheduled arrival and departure dates.
