No where will the need for your skills, patience, and caring be more evident than with this teaching project. The Teaching program in Guatemala is designed to offer English learning for young Guatemalans, an opportunity that will provide a brighter future. Global Crossroad has partnered with local schools to provide support and lesson plans for our volunteers to help these children get the education they deserve. Volunteers get to share their knowledge of reading English, and see the heartwarming smiles on the children as they learn to read a new story.
Volunteers in Guatemala spend the most time teaching English but you can teach other various subjects such as Math or Science in primary and junior secondary schools as well. You will teach conversational English to students in primary and junior secondary schools. You can read literature to help improve the low comprehension level and poor pronunciation of students. Volunteers will also be able to provide theoretical and practical assistance and aide the teachers as they interact with the students.
What Your Program Fee Does Cover?
What Your Program Fee does not cover?
Volunteers interested in teaching in Guatemala do not need to have any specific qualifications for the project except fluency in English and love for the children.
Most of our volunteers live in a homestay with local host families. Our host families are carefully screened. They are educated, socially respected, and have hosted international volunteers in the past. A host family offers you a separate room (sometime you need to share with a fellow volunteer of same gender) and three local meals a day. The family and volunteers share use of the bathroom/shower and kitchen facilities. This also provides a local support network beyond the volunteers and program staff. Many of the volunteers consider their home stay a vital component of their Guatemalan experience.
