The Association of the Residents of Barreira do Vasco was created more than sixty years ago by the first residents of the community. The Association offers support to their low income residents by offering activities that they can't afford to pay for such as sports, tutoring, reading groups, literacy for the elderly, technical programs, health care, business, accounting, and technology training.
No specific skills or qualification are required, except the volunteer needs to be friendly, open, flexible and should have good communication skills.
Accommodation: Our volunteers are lodged in wonderful Guest Houses in Santa Teresa, one of Rio de Janeiro\'s most enchanting neighborhoods.
Food and Meals: Brazil is a relatively inexpensive country for foreigners, but it all depends on your lifestyle. As described above, Iko Poran houses also have fully equipped kitchens where the volunteers may cook. A meal at a restaurant may be as cheap as R$ 7.00 in very nice and healthy popular restaurants or up to R$ 30.00 in nicer places.
