Morrinho is a truly multifaceted program that offers volunteers the opportunity to teach language courses in English, Spanish, and French; photography; outreach training for the boys when they take their exhibitions abroad; web design; and fundraising. The centerpiece of Morrinho is a scale model of the favelas of Rio de Janeiro made basically with bricks. The “Morrinho model” today occupies an area of 300 square meters in the Pereira da Silva community, boasting a wealth of details of places like: funk clubs, police, drugs sales points, alleys, staircases, small bars etc.

Food: Brazil is a relatively inexpensive country for foreigners, but it all depends on your lifestyle. As described above, Iko Poran houses also have fully equipped kitchens where the volunteers may cook. A meal at a restaurant may be as cheap as R$ 7.00 in very nice and healthy popular restaurants or up to R$ 30.00 in nicer places.

Any Missing Important Information

  • It is not necessary to send any payment in advance, payment should be made locally.
  • The volunteers may begin their placement only once they have paid the program fee in full and in cash upon arrival. This way, the volunteers do not need to think about money anymore and can concentrate on their programs and on the results achieved.
