Charity project providing informal education to poor young children and teenagers by offering them a place to spend their time when they are not at school and therefore having activities that help to develop a social conscience. The project has a simple structure; it gives attention to the kids, informal education, friendly atmosphere and food and it teaches them to find a place in the society. Many activities are offered, such as music, modern dance, sport, games, capoeria, and workshops with the mothers to teach them how to handicraft. The project is located in a very poor area of Porto Alegre: many children and adolescents who stay in the placement do not have a structured family and all of them attend school on part time.
Volunteer will help the staff and participate in recreation, workshops and several activities such as sports, dance, sewing, painting, arts and music, language classes and activities like that. Depending on the volunteers motivation and abilities she/he would be able to conduct classes him/herself. It is very important to motivate the kids, play with them, make them feel loved and wanted.

What will I get out of my "ICYE experience"
Through ICYE's long and short-term exchange programmes, young people can be part of a unique international educational experience that combines inter cultural learning with voluntary service opportunities. By living aboard with a family or residential project and working in local community development organisations, ICYE volunteers are provided an intercultural experience providing opportunities for learning, self-awareness and global education. Our participants acquire cross cultural skills and problem solving abilities, for their personal and professional development. ICYE helps them to share their experiences, hopes and dreams, and make life-long friendships with people from another country as well as with other international volunteers.
