Join Oyster's lively gap year placements in Brazil, Latin America's largest and most extrovert nation. Music and dance are everywhere and there's a real passion for life (and football!). But Brazil's social problems and poverty are no secret either. Our voluntary placements involve working with kids in four different projects in Rio and Sao Paulo. Some are street-children, many are neglected; all of them live tough lives. They need trusted adults, like you, to encourage them and help them stay out of trouble with fun projects, football, surf, IT, music and more. It’s not easy; these are among our tougher placements and participants need loads of determination - but the rewards are fantastic and Brazil itself is unforgettably beautiful
We work with four projects, two in Sao Paulo and two in Rio de Janeiro. The two cities are very different; Sao Paulo is the cosmopolitan business capital of Brazil, a rich, frenetic, inland city, while Rio is its drop-dead gorgeous coastal cousin, laid-back, beach-focused and super-fit.

What is Excluded:
No specific skills or qualifications are required. The volunteer must be friendly and should have good communication skills.
In all cases you will live either on site or very close by in safe, secure accommodation with another volunteer. It will be basic but comfortable and in most cases food will be provided, although you may have to cater for yourself on occasions.Whichever project you volunteer for, you will develop a good social life - not just with Oyster volunteers but with other local and international volunteers at your project and elsewhere. You certainly won't be short of things to do. Sao Paulo offers great nightlife, culture and restaurants and Rio needs little introduction.
You will fly to Sao Paulo or Rio, to be met by Rachael or Kristina (see below), who will sort out your paperwork, show you your accommodation, show you round and enrol you in your Portuguese course (if applicable)
