Volunteer Abroad in Ethiopia

Ethiopia, unique for African nations, can boast that it was never colonized (although the Italians occupied the country for a few years.). Its classical civilization rests in the green highlands, where the Ethiopian Orthodox Church maintains a powerful spiritual pull, as seen in the stunning rock-cut churches of Lalibela. Also extraordinary are the castle of Gondar and obelisks of Axum. The capital of Addis Ababa is bustling and like other Ethiopian towns is groovy for its cheap buna (coffee) cafes, in this, the birthplace of coffee. The soaring Simien Mountains are well worth visiting. Volunteering in Ethiopia is an excellent way to serve the country's children and communities and presents opportunities to explore this great country and thoroughly experience its culture in a different, immersive way. Volunteer opportunities in Ethiopia include: working in an orphanage, teaching English, working in healthcare projects, and supporting many local non-profit organizations.
