Volunteer Abroad in Israel

The messy, violent birth of Israel in 1948 was one of the most controversial events of the 20th century, as it was carried out without the support of Palestinians, who under a UN mandate were meant to share this ancient and oft fought over region in the middle of the Holy Land. Israel secured peace agreements with neighbors Egypt in 1979 and Jordan in 1994. But as long Israel and the Palestinians fail to see eye to eye on how to share this small but explosive spot of Earth, life in Israel and the Occupied Territories will remain precarious for all. From the fascinating gnarly back-lanes of Jerusalem and its Western Wall-a Jewish holy site topped by the Sacred Dome of the Rock mosque-to hedonistic Tel Aviv and water-sports-oriented Elat, this is a great destination, despite the endless controversy.

Volunteering in Israel is an excellent way to serve the country. It presents opportunities to explore this great country and thoroughly experience its culture in a different way. Volunteer opportunities in Israel includes: working in an orphanage, teaching English, working in healthcare projects, and supporting many local non-profit organizations.
