Escuela Gonzalo Pizarro is a public elementary school for kids. The school teaches about 140 kids from very low income families. There are only three teachers for the whole school. The school is located in Esmeraldas province in the Pacific coast of Ecuador. Volunteers will assist teachers in their daily classroom activities. Volunteers will also help in health and nutrition campaigns. The school is open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers live in FEVI housing in Tonsupa, small town pretty close to the school.

    • Assisting the teachers while taking classes
    • Taking classes in the schools
    • Helping the kids with their homeworks
    • Teaching the children how to use computers
    • Helping with administrative works

What program fee Includes

    Program fee covers:

    • Supervision as appropriate
    • Accommodation and meals
    • Training on an ongoing basis as required for each task
    • University level Spanish language classes

    Program fee does not cover:

    • Passport / Visa (if required from your country)
    • Local transport costs
    • Travel and cancellation insurance (all volunteers must have both)
    • Medical expenses
    • Personal expenses such as snacks, souvenirs, internet use, phone calls and personal excursions
    • Meals on your days off if you are not at the volunteer house at meal times

Skills/ Qualifications

Skills or Qualifications: Every person may volunteer in FEVI projects, as long as you are 18 years old or older, enthusiastic and motivated to share your time with people who need your assistance. As long as you are flexible and compassionate, and show feelings of solidarity and empathy with underprivileged people.

Arrangements for Room/Food

Food and Accommodation: FEVI will arrange and provide your housing and meals. You will be staying with a native host family. Your family will provide your housing and meals.

Any Missing Important Information

    Note: There is no Spanish language requirement. However, it will help you a lot to communicate with local people if you learn some Spanish before you come to Ecuador. There is no visa requirement. Your passport is enough to visit Ecuador for up to three months.
