Animals in the Jungle of Mera have been facing problems due to lack of refuse. Some animals are even in the verge of extinction. That is why we encourage volunteers to join us to help construct a new refuge for Amazonian animals in the jungle of Mera. We need help finishing our living quarters, building trails and animal enclosures. For more information, please sign up and contact us.

Major Job Responsibilities:

• To assist the construction of refuse for animals
• To bring in new ideas and ways of construction in the jungle
• To make sure animals are kept safe in the refuses

Program fee covers:

• Pre-arrival support & preparation
• Airport transfers
• Orientation program
• Volunteer placement(s)
• Daily in-person availability of coordinator
• Post-volunteering support

Skills or Qualifications: The following qualities can be very useful when volunteering in Ecuador

• Readiness to turn their hand to a variety of possible activities
• Flexibility in their approach to spending time on a project
• Readiness to take the initiative when it is necessary to develop an activity for themselves
  Openness to share their lives and experiences with other members involved in the project as a form of cultural exchange
• Willingness to experience the lifestyle and conditions of a very different culture
• Patience and realistic in their expectations of what they can achieve
• Alertness to their own reactions to their visit to a community, and able to think about how to communicate these effectively as a form of education for the other project members
  Ability to think creatively and sensibly about the possibilities for development of the project

There are different types and varieties of food and accommodation options that you can choose from:

Accommodation:

• Dormbed $5,00
• Single room, with private bathroom $10,00
• Double room, with private bathroom $14,00

Food:

• A standard plate of food like a breakfast (desayuno) or a lunch (almuerzo) is available from $1,50 USD and will fill you up very well. Lunch is being considered the main meal in Ecuador and usually includes soup, main course, desert and a fresh fruit juice
• A snack like a burger or a slice of pizza costs about $1,00 USD
• A western-style breakfast with everything included in a touristy place costs about $2,75 USD
• A big western-style lunch or dinner is available from $3,00 USD

Note: Volunteering visa allows you to stay in Ecuador for one year. You need to go to the Ecuadorean embassy in your own country to get this one. You can only get this kind of visa if you have proof that you will do volunteerwork with an official non-profit organisation in Ecuador. It costs a bit more money, but if you want to stay around for a year, the volunteering visa is your best option.
