This project will provide you with a rare and exciting opportunity to work alongside carnivore research experts, Bushman trackers and get close to wild African cheetahs and leopards. You will actively participate in the research and monitoring activities that take place in the projects study area to enable the research project to fulfil its objectives and further the knowledge of large carnivores for future conservation.
- Major Responsibilities

- Searching and identifying cheetah marking trees
- Locating collared carnivores through telemetry and GPS tracking
- Identifying, counting and tracking carnivore spoors
- Setting and checking box traps
- Capture, immobilization and collaring of large carnivores
- Building or clearing out temporary enclosures for new residents
- Wildlife census and game counts either from a 4x4 or at one of our waterholes
- Vegetation surveys
- Data entry
- Measuring and photographing large carnivore footprints for ID processing
- Working with local farmers
- Carrying out environmental education

Skills & Qualification: Volunteers in this project need to be flexible and understanding. Open-mindedness and patience will go a long way toward ensuring an enjoyable volunteer experience.
- Arrangements for Room/Food
Food: During your stay at the sanctuary, you will receive three basic but tasty meals a day. Breakfast is on a help-yourself basis, with toast and cereals etc. Lunch is typically sandwiches, salads or hot meals, whilst dinner includes a hot meal or barbecue. There is a communal kitchen and dining area that overlooks the vast plains of this fantastic project site and a small shop where you can buy a few snacks. We can make allowances for most dietary requirements including vegetarians, vegans and common food allergies. In these cases, please speak to the camp manager or cook if you have specific requirements. However, you must take responsibility for your own allergies and carefully monitor the food that you consume. It is important that you let us and your project manager know of any dietary requirements that you may have.
Accommodation: Accommodation will be provided in one of the two volunteer houses. You will be staying in clean, comfortable but basic accommodation, sharing with two other volunteers. Each room contains three single beds with linen, duvets and pillows provided. There will be communal showers and toilets available for you with hot running water. There is the option for a private room at an extra cost of NAD$649 (payable locally).
