Project Review

Due to international trade, tourism and the use of English as one of official languages by the government, English has achieved a great prominence in Sri Lanka. If you are a fluent speaker and write well, you’ll be fast tracked into a successful career. However, the standard of teaching and syllables in schools, especially that aren’t well funded, are very poor. This often results in students not developing a good grasp of English. Rustic Volunteer and Travel is collaborating with local schools and helping the young students develop good English by asking volunteers to work in the project. You’ll teach eager students English and develop their ability to comprehend, write and speak well in English.

Major Responsibilities

You'll teach English but if you want to teach more subjects, e.g. Math, Science, Computers, you're more than free to do so. You can start as an assistant and learn how local teachers go about doing their job or you can start on your own immediately. You're encouraged to hold discussions and debates with the students as this can often lead to students understanding English better. You can also get involved in sports. The students are usually aged between 6 and 16. You can choose which age group you want to teach.
