Overview

For two decades, our expeditions in Honduras have made significant contributions to research. Our terrestrial site, located in the stunning Cusuco National Park, is the most published in Honduras, while our marine site is at the forefront of coral reef research. Joining us means becoming part of the largest terrestrial science team among all Opwall sites and diving or snorkeling at our flagship marine location for research.

In Cusuco National Park, you'll explore the cloud forests and their conservation importance, participating in various surveys. These include mist-netting and point counts for exotic tropical birds and surveys of remarkable amphibians and reptiles. You'll even complete a jungle survival course for a complete immersion in this unique environment.

Our marine research in Honduras takes place at either the Tela Marine Research Centre or Utila Island, focusing on Caribbean coral reef ecology and conservation. These sites have published over 60 papers recently, making them ideal places to learn about coral reef ecosystems, the threats they face, and innovative conservation efforts. You can work towards your PADI Open Water Qualification or, if you're already qualified or prefer snorkeling, you'll join our team of researchers in the Caribbean Reef Ecology Course, contributing to various projects.
