Overview

Plagued by grinding poverty, 10 years-long civil war and political instability, thousands of children are abandoned by their families and forced to live as orphans. With nowhere to go, they take refuge in the orphanages. The orphanages try to provide food, education and shelter, but it is a hopeless cause without the necessary help and funding for these organizations. IFRE intends to support these orphanages in taking care of children and you can participate.

By joining this program, you will have a chance to work with children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Your role will be to teach them basic English and develop their conversational skills. You will provide care, love and attention to children, help them with their homework and motivate them for learning. You will also assist the local staff with administrative duties and raise funds for various educational programs. You do not need to have any specific qualifications or skills to participate in the orphanage volunteer project in Nepal. By taking part in this project you will give these children a chance to grow self-confident and prosper.

Important Information

According to the Criminal Records Review Act, all volunteers who are enrolled in programs that include a practicum component involving working with children or vulnerable adults will have to undergo a criminal record check before they will be permitted to register for volunteering.

I really loved the children and got to know the culture very well.

I spent five weeks in total in Nepal working at an orphanage in Kathmandu. It was an amazing experience. I really loved the children and got to know the culture very well. The people were always so helpful and welcoming and I will really miss the relaxed atmosphere that I learned to love after a while. My trip to Chitwan National Park also was a great experience and very well organised. During my stay IFRE helped me with any problem that occurred. Despite the Nepali people I also met some other great volunteers from all over the world for which I am really grateful. I can only recommend to spend some time in Nepal and get to know the country.
