  • Day 1 - Horseback Riding Day Tour

We will meet you in the morning in your hotel and drive to Vayots Dzor region. First, we will visit Noravank Monastery, which is located at the end of a spectacular blood-red canyon. The monastery, nestled at the end of this gorgeous chasm, is one of the most famous in Armenia; a realization of the grandiose dreams of the 13th-century Orbelian family, and the repository of some of Armenia’s finest sculptures, including one that is often pointed out as Armenia’s first Renaissance artwork.

After the sightseeing visit, we will continue to Gomk village. Here we will meet the fantastic horses. These are local Armenian special breed which can walk in the mountains. We will start riding towards the small lake in the mountains. The road passes through beautiful mountains and meadows. When we reach the lake, we will stop to enjoy the views and have lunch. Then, we will ride back to the village and drive to Areni village to visit Areni-1 cave. Areni-1 is one of the rarest and best-preserved late Chalcolithic (Copper Age) monuments in the region, the study of which gives us a chance to understand not only the peculiarities of the material culture in the 5th-4th millenniums BCE but which also shows us that wine production in Armenia has at least a 6,000-year history.

We will finish the tour with a visit to one of the best wineries of the Vayots Dzor region, to taste delicious Armenian wines made of Areni grape. Areni is a largely unknown ancient grape variety that captures a truly unique aspect of human history, as it recalls the very origins of winemaking.

Drive back to Yerevan after a long day full of great moments.
