Overview

This trip will give you a real nomadic life experience and wild life observation while staying in a comfortable boutique ger. Western meal served by private chef and staying in the upgraded Mongolian ger in the middle of steppe near the nomadic family is an authentic experience. Part of the tour, you will visit Khustai National Park which is one of the largest conservation area in central Mongolia and known for its population of wild horse - Takhi (Przewalski's horse).

  • Day 1 - Khustai National Park and visit Nomadic Family

    Leave the city and drive to Khustai National Park which is about 1.5 hours away from the city (87km on a paved road, 13 km a dirt road). Once we arrive we will visit the national park information center. Together with a camp guide, we will drive deep into the Khustai Mountains (about 10 km on dirt road), and search for the wild horses, deer, elk and marmots to observe and take pictures. Here we will have a picnic lunch. After that, we will drive about half an hour to our boutique ger near the nomadic family. We will visit their ger first and get acquainted with the host family and we will learn a little bit from the culture. Such as handing blue scarf called “Khadag” used for greeting and showing respect. We will have open discussion to get to know more about the family background and their nomadic culture and lifestyle. Dinner will be served as western meal prepared by professional chef.

  • Day 2 - Exploring and Nomadic experience day

    The family will serve homemade bread, fresh butter cream for breakfast. Plus egg and ham or cereal and milk for choice. After breakfast we will drive about 30 km to visit Ungut Kurgan stelae site consisting of 552 balbal stones, belongs to 6-8th centuries of the Turkic Empire. This is one of the biggest collection of ancient balbal found in Central Asia. Then we will get back to our ger and will have various cultural activities such as:
    - Make Mongolian traditional food “Buuz” (steamed dumpling) and have a Mongolian food for lunch
    - Horseback riding along the Tuul riverside - Milk a cow and see how to prepare the milk for dairy products
    - Collect the dry dung with traditional method and help the family to have some home fire fuel
    - Help the family to make a leather rope with traditional way
    - Play traditional game “Shagai” made out of sheep ankle bone After dinner we will be invited by the host family and have a little traditional way of party or mini reception. The neighbor nomadic family might also join us and we will have a chance to listen their singing of old and modern folk songs.

  • Day 3 - Back to Ulaanbaatar

    Another delicious breakfast in the fresh air and after breakfast we will drive back to Ulaanbaatar.
