This 6 Days - Exploring The Wonders Of Nagaland: Naga New Year Festival is for those who want to explore the day to day life of Naga people and see its highlights while learning more about their culture and history.
All year round, visitors to Myanmar can experience the country’s warm and rich culture. However, one particularly special and unique time to visit is during the Naga New Year Festival, which will be held in Lahe on 15 January 2020.
This special time allows visitors the chance to experience the traditions and customs of Myanmar’s Naga people. For the Naga, Lahe (New Year) is a significant time when people share their wishes and hopes for the future, and families are reunited.
It is a time of great celebration; where lively dances are performed in traditional dress, to the beat and sounds of traditional instruments.
Few tourists are lucky enough to share in the joy and festivities of the Naga New Year, but those who do are richly rewarded with an incredible cultural experience.
Overall, for those who seek genuine cultural exchange and the opportunity to take some truly stunning photographs, the Naga New Year is an amazing and unique festival to attend.
- Day 1 - Mandalay-Khamti (by flight) and drive to Lahe ( B, L, D )
Our journey starts from Mandalay and flies to Khamti, the gateway to Nagaland. Welcome by your ready-waiting drivers and start driving to Lahe, the place where the festival happen. Be ready to take photos along the way for the beautiful and scenic Naga mountain. We will stop at some photogenic viewpoint, too. Arrival at Lahe, we will relax at a local guesthouse and enjoy the mouthwatering local dishes prepared by the local. And spend overnight at the local guest house.

- Day 2 - Exploration in 3 villages (Ma Kyan, San Tone and Kyar Wan) ( B, L, D )
Let’s try to understand about Naga people before you celebrate with them on their biggest event, New Year Festival. Today you will visit Lahe and environs including three villages called Ma Kyan, San Tone and Kyar Wan. The lifestyle of Naga people will amaze you with their friendliness and stories, traditions and unique culture. You will be served the traditional meals which are crafted by local with warm hearts. Overnight at Lahe local guesthouse.
- Day 3 - Enjoy Naga New Year Festival ( B, L, D )
Today is the pre-opening and first day of Naga Festival. This is a very exciting day to explore Naga people preparing for their New Year Festival. This is the first day you are going to see different types of Naga tribes with their traditional colorful dresses. Make sure your cameras are ready to take photos. It is so exciting to see the tribes are coming like the warriors are marching for the battles. Today is the lucky day that you can take photos/videos closely of their dancing. In the afternoon, after lunch we will explore some villages and explore the area more. You will spend your time enjoying the pre-opening ceremony in the evening if you love to.
- Day 4 - Enjoy Naga New Year Festival ( B, L, D )
This is the day we are coming for, Naga New Year Festival 15 of January. The opening time is 0900 Am, but we will be there a bit early to watch again the warriors are coming to the festival ground. We will spend our whole day at the festival today. And enjoy the Naga traditional dances and colorful costumes. You are going to taste their festival meals and local drinks (Khaung Ye) for lunch. Another highlight of today is to participate and enjoy the Bonfire party of Naga people. Watching bonfire party with cool weather, listening to their traditional music and dancing people crazy make your memorable time ever.
- Day 5 - Drive back to Khamti and stay overnight at Guest house ( B, L, D )
Today, after breakfast early in the morning, you will depart from Lahe to Khamti by car. On the way, you will take the photos of the beautiful sceneries (if you want) and have lunch. After lunch, continue driving to Khamti and spending your time in Khamti. You will have dinner at the local restaurant and stay overnight at the guest house in Khamti.
- Day 6 - Transfer to airport in Khamti and fly back to Mandalay ( B )
Before you leave Khamti, you will go to the teashop and have breakfast. After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport to fly back from Khamti to Mandalay. On arrival in Mandalay, your driver will pick you up at the airport and transfer to the hotel. You will spend a night in Mandalay.
- 2-night accommodation in Mandalay at the above mentioned hotel (11-Jan and 17-Jan (2 nights), Guest House in Khamti on 16-Jan, Local Guest House in Lahe (12- Jan to 15-Jan (four nights)
