Overview
Our unique Cultural safaris will take you on an adventure of a lifetime, into the heart of the Tanzanian northern safari circuit. Nowhere else in Africa do we find the sheer numbers of animals, predators, and carnivores like the African lion, or the ease with which these animals can be viewed, as in Tanzania. Cultural safari was designed for the traveler with an adventurous spirit, seeking an intimate experience in the local African Masai tribes, but also still taking advantage of enjoying a wildlife safari which includes visits to Lake Manyara and Serengeti National Parks, Lake Eyasi, and the famous Ngorongoro Crater which, features one of the highest concentrations of game in Africa.
Here you will witness an amazing spectacle of African wildlife – inside a self-contained world teeming with animals. The tour will further take you to the Serengeti National Park, into the heart of wild Africa, a massive wilderness of 14500 square km, where every day brings a new landscape and a new adventure. You will visit the Lake Manyara National Park, one of Tanzania’s most dramatically located wildlife areas, consisting of a shallow but huge soda lake, at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The tour also includes a visit to Lake Eyasi a Salt Lake situated between the Rift Valley’s Eyasi escarpment and the Kidero Mountains. The area around Lake Eyasi is inhabited by the Hadzabe bushmen, some of the last remaining hunter-gatherers on the African continent.
- Day 1 - Mvuli Hotel, Arusha.
You will be picked up from Kilimanjaro International Airport. Our staff will answer all your queries regarding your upcoming safari and provide you with a short briefing as well. Afterward, you will be taken to your accommodation at Mvuli Hotel.
- Day 2 - Farm of Dreams Lodge, Karatu.
After a safari briefing in the morning and an approximate 2-hour drive, you will arrive at the Tarangire National Park. Giant baobab trees, bush savannah and the seasonal marshes add to the wonder of this nature reserve. The Tarangire National Park is considered as one of the best places to view elephants up close. The park is also home to buffaloes, zebras, and wildebeests which are always closely followed by a range of predators such as lions. Leopards are seen now and then but cheetahs are rarely spotted. From the open roof of the safari vehicle, you will be able to absorb the landscape and watch the animals. In the late afternoon, you will leave the park and drive to Karatu for an overnight at the Farm of Dreams Lodge.
- Day 3 - Farm of Dreams Lodge, Lake Manyara National Park.
After breakfast, you will travel from the Farm of Dreams Lodge. to the Lake Manyara National Park.
The park is known for its over 400 bird species, primate-filled forests, and grassy plains. A large area of the park is covered by the alkaline Lake Manyara, the seasonal breeding grounds for large colonies of flamingos and many more waterfowl. The park is also home to giraffes, hippos, wildebeests, impalas, and groups of noisy monkeys and baboons. After an extensive game drive Mto Wa Mbu village for a great cultural experience with an experienced, English-speaking guide who grew up in the village. Visit local farms (rice paddies, Banana Beer Bar, and local activities), schools, a kindergarten, local homes, the food market, and milling machines. We can include a local lunch for your guests that is served in a lovely banana plantation deep inside Mto Wa Mbu village on request, then followed by Biking around the village. Late afternoon travel back to the Farm of Dreams Lodge. - Day 4 - Tanzania Bush Camps Central Serengeti, Seronera
After breakfast, you will travel via the cooler highlands towards the southern Serengeti and at midday you will reach the plains of the Serengeti National Park. This park is the largest in Tanzania and has a diversity of habitats and landscapes – short grass plains, savannah, thick bush, swamps and lakes. Bizarre rock formations called kopjes dot the grassy landscape where predators are often seen. The Serengeti is famous for the yearly migration when hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebras trek to find fresh grass and water. You will spend the night at the Tanzania Bush Camp inside of the park.
- Day 5 - Tanzania Bush Camps Central Serengeti, Seronera.
The entire day is dedicated to game viewing in the Serengeti National Park. The areas that you visit will depend upon where the migrating herds are. Predators usually follow closely behind the trekking animals and include lions, leopards (in the acacia trees) and cheetahs. During the short rainy season in November and December the herds move from the hills in the north to the plains in the south. During the longer rainy season from April to June they return up north. As the migration is completely dependent on the yearly rainfalls, the location of the herds may vary from year to year but your guide will know where to locate the animals and where to see them best. You will spend another night at the Tanzania Bush Camp.
- Day 6 - Farm of Dreams Lodge, Ngorongoro Region.
On your outward journey to the park gate, you will enjoy some more game viewing before you leave the Serengeti National Park in the early afternoon to continue your journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As soon as you reach the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater, you will descend to the crater floor for the game. Later afternoon drive to Farms of Dreams Lodge for dinner and overnight.
- Day 7 - Farm of Dreams Lodge, Karatu.
In the early morning, after having tea & coffee in camp, you proceed driving with a local guide into the surrounding hills ridges in search of a Hadzabe encampment; arriving at their last known site of camp you proceed after them on foot. Upon meeting them you are introduced to the camp members. Visit their tiny huts, follow the women on a gathering foray and see how roots are dug, mice are caught and berries and Baobab fruit are gathered and prepared, or follow the men on a hunt, led in the wildlife-rich woodland between towering Baobabs and acacias. The men are armed with longbows with poison-tipped arrows, which you can see produced in the village, and honey axes. If successful on the hunt, or finding a beehive, you will be offered to share their meal, a small antelope, a Francolin, or Guinea fowl as luck dictates that day. Return to your Camp for lunch. In the afternoon Set out and visit a Datoga community and learn about their traditional pastoral way of life. The women still wear leather dresses, traditional jewelry, and distinctive facial scarification, and the men armed with spears tend to their vast herds. Visit the traditional homesteads and experience their way of life and time permitting pass by the traditional Datoga blacksmith, that still resides in the area. In the late afternoon return to your Lodge Farm of Dreams Lodge for dinner and overnight.
