MEMANTA is a registered company that aims to combine tourism with nature conservation by offering voluntourism programs. We are a german-nicaraguan couple who met in a sea turtle conservation project in Costa Rica, so it has always been our dream to do something similar in Nicaragua. We live on a spacious beachfront property on a remote Peninsular with lots of pressing environmental issues, but it's not too late yet as development is happening slowly.
Having worked as volunteers ourselves for many years and having gained expert knowledge in sea turtle conservation, we know exactly what we are doing. We hope to spark that same flame in other individuals and motivate them to embark on a similar, life-changing journey.
The project opened its doors in 2020 and has been evolving at a sustainable pace. We're trying the best we can to minimize our ecological impact and protect the local ecosystem despite developing touristic infrastructure.
In our sea turtle hatchery we get to protect >100 nests in one season, mainly from the Olive Ridley turtle, but also from the rare Hawksbill and Green turtle. We gather the nests by collaborating with skilled egg collectors from the local community and by going on night patrols ourselves.
